Every wallcovering has different characteristics, and the installation method should be appropriate for the material and the manufacturer's specifications. My experience includes installing luxury and designer wallpaper, traditional wallpaper, non-woven wallcoverings, grasscloth and natural materials, murals, Mylar and metallic wallcoverings, clay-coated papers, vinyl wallcoverings, paste-the-wall, paste-the-paper, and peel-and-stick products.

Before installation, I consider the wall condition, material, pattern repeat and match, recommended adhesive, manufacturer instructions, and the layout of the room. Proper preparation and careful planning are an important part of achieving a professional finished installation.

Professional Wall Preparation

A quality wallpaper installation starts before the first strip is hung. Proper wall preparation is one of the most important parts of a successful installation. I evaluate the condition of the walls and address issues that could affect the finished wallcovering, including surface imperfections, previous coatings, repairs, and existing wallpaper when applicable.

My typical preparation process may include light sanding with professional dust-controlled equipment, minor surface repairs, cleaning, and applying an appropriate wallpaper primer or sealer before installation. Preparation varies depending on the wall surface and wallcovering being installed, and manufacturer requirements are considered when selecting primers, adhesives, and installation methods.

The goal is to create a properly prepared surface that allows the wallcovering to perform as intended while producing the cleanest, most professional finished appearance possible.

High-End & Designer Wallpaper Installation

Designer wallcoverings can represent a significant investment, and many specialty materials require considerably more care than standard wallpaper. I regularly work with high-end and designer wallcoverings where careful handling, accurate layout, pattern placement, clean seams, and attention to the manufacturer's installation requirements are especially important.

Before installation begins, I evaluate the wallcovering, room layout, pattern repeat and match, and potential focal points so the material can be positioned intentionally. With specialty materials such as grasscloth, Mylar, metallic and foil wallcoverings, clay-coated papers, murals, and other delicate designer products, the characteristics of the material are considered before determining the installation approach.

My philosophy is simple: when a client invests in a beautiful wallcovering, the installation should complement that investment. My goal is not simply to hang wallpaper, but to turn wallpaper into artwork.
